Preparing the troops oops I mean the treats!

This week I have been in my warm cosy kitchen, mostly baking for the annual Thomas More Country Fair. We live 3 hours away from the Drakensberg mountains. So when it snows there which it did on Monday, Durbanites get to feel some cold temps for a change!

The weather is not great for the fair which I'm praying will clear up this Saturday. But I have been seeing some awesome pics on facebook of friends children, seeing the snow for the first time and it brings a smile to my face. Last day tomorrow for baking and I will be making some shortbread glitter stars!

There's going to be an exclusive craft market plus a giant field of fun for the kids. Its a fantastic, well organized event and a great family outing. Get there early to grab a parking! Pop in and say hi to Tin Bird, I know you are craving Pecan snowballs, Double choc biscotti, Choc chip crunchies, Bodega nuts... drooling yet?

A thrifting tea party!

One of my favourite blogs {the thrift collection} has an online shop of pre-owned clothes for guys & gals, accessories, homeware and all this with the thrift price tag. Pippa, who runs the online Thrift shop, is {hosting a tea party!} to celebrate the opening of her new store. Bonus... in Durbs - how fabulous! There will be thrifting, tea & crouquet. So please save the date and spread the word.

Some of my favourite items I picked up at her store: my lilac necklaces {R20} and my tin wastepaper bin {R25} which resides in my office. I love a good bargain - thanks Pippa!

Chocolate Milo Cake

It was hubby's birthday last week so I made him Nigella's Choc Malteser Cake. Nigella uses Horlicks, which I substituted with Milo. My cake tins were larger and I also substituted maltesers with cadbury shortcake balls. It had a very subtle flavour with those tell-tale Milo bits. Kiddies helped decorate and with some edible glitter of course. (FYI - everything tastes better with edible glitter didn't you know?!) As always Nigella's recipes are very simple and when it was time to take out the oven it was ready et voila. Definitely will make this again. You can find the recipe here.
